Our Story Begins with Love & Legacy
Rooted in Legacy. Rising in Love.
Divine Birthing Services was founded in 2020 by mother-daughter doula duo Yvette Perry and Jalisa Burton two Black women called by lived experience, ancestral wisdom, and an unshakable truth:
Black families deserve to birth in power not in fear.
Raised in Sun Village, a historic Black town in California’s Antelope Valley, Yvette and Jalisa built Divine Birthing Services as a response to what they knew too well—what happens when Black birthing people aren’t seen, heard, or held.
Together, they created not just a program, but a sanctuary for birthing people, grieving families, new parents, end-of-life caretakers, and aspiring Birth Workers. A home for healing. A vessel for transformation.
Yvette Perry has been a driving force in the fight for maternal health equity since the founding of Divine Birthing Services. Since 2020, she’s actively contributed to the AAIMM Prevention Initiative and collaborated with numerous local nonprofits to improve outcomes for Black mothers and babies. A fierce advocate for justice, she’s worked tirelessly to address systemic disparities in maternal care, birth equity, and housing displacement.
Her impact has not gone unnoticed—Yvette was honored as Mommy Mentor of the Year in 2023 and Volunteer of the Year in 2024, a testament to her unwavering commitment to uplifting families and championing change. Her vision is rooted in legacy: that every child should grow up knowing that joy, health, and wealth are their divine birthright.
Jalisa Burton, a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, brings courage, clarity, and leadership into every space she enters. Her military service instilled in her a deep commitment to protecting life, advocating for equity, and standing firm in the face of injustice. Now, as a full-spectrum doula and community leader, she serves her people with that same fierce devotion—uplifting families through care, mentorship, and advocacy.
